What are Rec Ponds?
Rec ponds (recreational ponds) are multi-purpose water features designed for swimming, fishing, kayaking, and outdoor activities. These larger ponds feature different depth zones for various uses and can be stocked with fish while maintaining excellent water quality through natural filtration systems. Transform your property into an entertainment paradise.
How to Build a Rec Pond (5 Steps):
Site Selection - Choose location with proper drainage and sun exposure Design Layout - Plan depth zones for swimming (8-10 ft), fishing (4-6 ft), and plants (1-2 ft) Excavation - Dig to planned depths with gradual slopes for safety Install Systems - Add liner, filtration pumps, and circulation equipment Finishing Touches - Landscape edges, stock fish, and fill with water A well-designed rec pond includes different depth zones to support various uses. Shallow areas for wading and fishing, deeper sections for swimming and diving, and planted areas that provide natural filtration and wildlife habitat. This multi-zone design maximizes the recreational potential while maintaining excellent water quality. Whether you have a few acres or a sprawling ranch, rec ponds can be designed to fit your space and budget. They work beautifully in the Texas landscape, from Hill Country properties where they complement rolling terrain to flat lands where they create dramatic focal points and recreational opportunities.
